Coagulation profile evaluated by thromboelastography rotem® in patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage admitted to an intensive care unit

Introduction Coagulation alterations after a subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) secondary to aneurysm rupture are frequent and clinically relevant. They may impact negatively in the outcome. The diagnosis of coagulopathy with the standard tests is limited as only the initial part of coagulation process is being assessed. In contrast, thromboelastography provides the whole blood clot information, allowing evaluation of clot formation, strength and lysis.
